What a day (and weekend) it was! We started our patriotic festivities on Friday evening with float decorating and dinner with friends at home. Travis and the orthodontist who works out of his office occasionally decided to get in some free advertising by participating in the Lakewood 4th of July parade. So, we borrowed a trailer, bought lots of fun decorations and put together a pretty nice looking float on Friday night, complete with a vintage dental chair. Grace and Caroline had so much fun "practicing" for the next day!
Then, we made our parade debut early on Saturday morning. It was hot, but so much fun! Ella, Poppy and Travis rode in the truck, but the Ragans, Grace and I threw red, white and blue leis, beads and candy to hundreds of spectators. Sweet Dory stayed home with Sutton because of the heat. Grace really got into it, but had a momentary breakdown when she accidentally threw her prized pink ring with a handful of candy. Ooops! I guess we'll be making a trip to Claire's this week :) It was neat to see so many neighbors and friends along the parade route. I just love our neighborhood, and we love this new tradition!
After an all-American lunch of hot dogs, everyone (include me!!) got naps. We then headed out to Rockwall for Papa Jim's annual fish fry. Yummy food, friends and family--what more could you ask for?

Overall, it was a fun, but long day! The girls were so exhausted, they fell asleep about 5 minutes into our hour-long drive home. Sutton, however, was not happy about all the traffic and screamed most of the way. Then, Ella woke up 15 minutes from the house and joined in the scream fest. Grace must have felt left out, so she woke up as soon as we pulled in the garage and cried until she finally got in bed. 3 crying kids = C-R-A-Z-Y!! I'm thinking we may skip the Rockwall fireworks next year and stick close to home to see the Lakewood show :)
