Spring Trip to the Zoo

With such gorgeous weather this weekend, we couldn't resist a trip to the zoo. So, after Grace's soccer game, we loaded everyone up and drove out to Fort Worth. We've made it a tradition to eat BBQ on "zoo days," and this was no exception. Our first stop was at Off the Bone in Forest Hill, and their food was ridiculously good. Sutton got his very first rib. It was quite the photo op, and his daddy was incredibly proud.

Next stop was the Fort Worth Zoo. I figured with the weather it would be packed, but it wasn't and we got a great parking spot in the main lot (which has never happened). I just love how much these two love each other. Look at Sutton's hand on Ella's arm and her hand on his leg.

I personally think the gorillas are disgusting, but they're always the first thing we visit because they're closest to the entrance. Grace is scared of them, but must have felt protected in her daddy's arms.

I love this girl.

"Look, Ella! Those are the nasty gorillas!"

We moved right along to the stinky flamingos. Ella said, "Look, they're orange!" Yes, flamingos are supposed to be pink, but these were more peach and coral.

Little man wasn't the least bit interested. He was trying to catch a nap.

Grace is definitely in a "don't take my picture" phase and won't stand still for a moment. She said, "Here, Momma, now you can take my picture." It's not the best, but I'll take it.

They love the giraffes and koi pond.

This sweet baby giraffe (is there a term for that) had the hardest time getting a drink.

The highlight of the day: Dippin' Dots. We never let them eat this junk except when we're at the zoo. They know this, and it's always their favorite part of trip.

Grace had to share hers with Sutton because he was terribly upset that we didn't get him any. My kids inherited my sweet tooth. Know a good dentist?

Their second favorite part: the carousel. This is one of my favorite pictures of Ella. Just look at the wonder in her big brown eyes.

Grace's eyes are covered up by her sunglasses, but I could sense the excitement in her giggles.

Still relaxed, but he never fell asleep. The girls' screams as they passed him on the carousel weren't as exciting to him as they were to his sisters.

Finally, he ventures out to see the giant blue parrots (but mostly just to rest in daddy's arms).

He found his pointer finger and now points to everything and say, "Dat?" What a curious one he is. And, no Tech fans, he's not putting his guns up. We're working on his "Sic 'Em!"

It makes me melt.

They're so silly together.

We loved the new MOLA (Museum of Living Art) and saw tons of cool snakes, fish, reptiles and birds. It was a wonderful, wonderful day and we finished it with dinner at Chuy's. Yum, yum. What a perfect way to spend a weekend!
